Due to the ongoing expansion of our highly successful award-winning data centre design and build business, we have an exciting career opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Health & Safety Manager with experience working within a construction background. Sudlows, working throughout the UK, have a growing portfolio of clients globally. Due to the imminent retirement of our current Health and Safety Manager, we are keen to recruit the right candidate to allow a controlled handover of responsibilities.

Role Purpose

The successful candidate will run the Health and Safety department and be a valued member of our senior management team. The main purpose of this role is to act as the Company’s lead competent person for Health, Safety and Environmental management, in addition to ensuring the Company’s ongoing compliances with current health, safety and environmental legislation. Working proactively with staff to establish and maintain systems that promote a culture of safe working practices across the Company, whilst reducing our negative impact on the planet. To provide direction and leadership to the 2 full-time Health and Safety Advisors.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To ensure the Company’s Health and Safety management systems are maintained and implemented consistently across the Company.
  • To ensure that the Company’s Environmental management systems are maintained and implemented consistently across the Company.
  • To monitor, evaluate and review Health, Safety and Environmental polies and practice, make recommendations, and implement new policies and procedures as required.
  • To assist in the identification of training needs for employees and to develop and deliver training as required.
  • To advise the Board and senior management team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and environmental legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating actions plans to ensure compliance across the Company.
  • To support staff to maintain safe systems of work, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support.
  • To assist managers/staff implement health, safety and environmental systems and procedures to meet specific requirements.
  • Co-ordinate the accident, incident and near-miss reporting and investigation processes.
  • Ensure the Company complies with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Carry out audits to evaluate the effectiveness of Health Safety and Environmental management systems deployment.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by management.

Personal Specification

Skills and Ability

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge constructively.
  • Effective team working and networking skills and able to work independently using own initiative.
  • A relevant professional qualification e.g. NEBOSH Diploma. IEMA Cert.
  • A chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload.
  • Extensive knowledge of effective health and safety management strategies and best practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application in the   construction industry.

Experience

  • Knowledge and a proven track record of delivery of health safety and environmental      management systems and the provision of advice within the construction industry.
  • Experience of working with senior managers/Directors.
  • Experience of successfully managing and motivating a team.
  • Experience of communicating effectively, verbally and in writing to senior managers and compiling and providing written reports.
  • Evidence of continued professional and personal development.
