Sudlows have worked with this global manufacturer of metal components and equipment for vehicles for many years. Our relationship started with Sudlows working at their UK site as their specialist Electrical Contractors. In the past we have installed fibre and copper cabling, wireless solutions, dedicated power and UPS systems. We also installed their first IP CCTV system in 2012. However, in recent years we have predominantly focused on their network infrastructure.
The Brief
During 2019, our client had an issue with vandalism and theft of lead from their factory roof. Members of the public were accessing the roof space from the public street by scaling a 7m high wall, this wall was also 200m in length and sits on a dark public street with no street lighting.
Our client was looking for a security solution to minimise damage and theft that in the past was in excess of £60,000.
The Solution
We first introduced our clients’ Head of IT to the Hikvision solution in 2019 with a visit to their demo facility. The Hikvision VSS system was of great interest as they could see several opportunities for its use on site.
Sudlows worked closely with the client team to complete a risk assessment of their security issue and develop a system design that addressed both the output of the risk assessment and met the wider business operational requirements. This design included installing dual lens thermal imaging cameras in specific target areas to address poorly lit conditions and provide detection at distance.
In addition to the solution’s thermal component, ‘DeepinMind Series’ cameras were also installed at specific points along the perimeter and configured with advanced AI based analytics to provide not just CCTV footage of the required areas, but also a notification to security of any intruder presence. The capabilities of the analytics extended to being able to distinguish between people and wildlife. As a full feature Video Management Solution (VMS), HikCentral was also installed as a Virtual Appliance on the client’s servers to manage the overall system.
The Conclusion
Sudlows designed and installed a sophisticated and adaptable security solution with very little limitations. Within just three weeks of finishing the installation, the system was given an unexpected live test when burglars attempted to access the site. The system worked exactly as designed allowing on-site security to contact the police whist the theft was in progress.
