Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled SCS & Fibre Technician to join our team. In this role, you will install, terminate, test, and maintain structured cabling systems within data centres. You will work closely with network engineers, infrastructure teams, and project managers to ensure optimal performance and reliability of network connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) and fibre optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode) in data centres.
  • Comprehensive fibre optic knowledge with pre-terminated MPO plug and play and conventional and ribbon fibre systems is essential.
  • Label and document cable installations according to industry standards and company requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair cabling issues, including identifying faulty connections and resolving connectivity problems.
  • Perform cable routing, dressing, and patching to maintain an organised and efficient data centre environment.
  • Adhere to safety standards and best practices while working in high-density server and network environments.
  • Conduct cable testing using OTDR, OLTS, and cable certifiers.
  • Assist with equipment moves, additions, and changes (MACs) as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of cable infrastructure, including diagrams and labelling schemes.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams to support network and IT infrastructure needs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience in structured cabling installation, preferably in data centre environments.
  • Familiarity with fibre optic and copper cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, ANSI).
  • Experience using cable testing and certification tools (Fluke testers, OTDR, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and network schematics.
  • Knowledge of cable management best practices, including cable tray, conduit, and raceway installation.
  • Strong attention to detail and maintaining a clean and organised workspace.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights when required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI certification (e.g., Installer 1, 2, or Technician).
  • Experience with data centre operations and infrastructure.
  • Understanding of network hardware such as switches, routers, and patch panels.
