Role Overview

The role of Project Surveyor & Installation Manager is a multifunctional role that sits within the Pre-Sales and Operational side of our Sudlows Enterprise Services division.

Typical projects will be within hyperscale data centres and enterprise office environments.

The Project Surveyor & Installation Manager will be required to; review and decipher client supplied design documents, undertake onsite surveys, provide scoped requirements back to internal estimating teams, as well as the day-to-day management of ongoing network cabling projects.

The Project Surveyor & Installation Manager should have a background in structured cabling, with a good understanding of data centre fibre optic cabling. Knowledge of cable testing and familiarity with the use of cable testing equipment is also required.

Whilst the Project Surveyor & Installation Manager does not need to be an expert in all IP technologies, a background knowledge of some of these systems, and in particular, their functions and how they interconnect, is desirable.

The Project Surveyor & Installation Manager will retain ownership of the project during its lifecycle, from survey through to the final closeout stages, including compilation of final project documentation and handover to the client.

The Project Surveyor & Installation Manager will be responsible for all day-to-day management of the project, including the management of labour and materials on the project, and regular interaction with the client, ensuring that expectations are managed and met.

The Project Surveyor & Installation Manager role comes with a lot of client engagement and as such will be expected to provide a high level of customer service, in keeping with Sudlows’ standards. As well as providing clear and concise communication both internally and externally.

Key Accountabilities

  • Reviewing and interpreting client supplied design documents (SoW, Cable Cutsheets, Drawings, etc.)
  • Undertaking onsite surveys to ascertain project requirements, materials, plant and resource.
  • Review quotations prior to client issue.
  • Owning assigned projects from start to finish and ensuring clear and precise customer and stakeholder communication is provided throughout the project.
  • Ensuring all projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with great customer experience.
  • Managing project scope and change control, and escalating issues where necessary.
  • Monitoring project progress and performance.
  • Interact with technical cabling engineers, 3rd party contractors and clients’ representatives.
  • Managing the onsite installation teams and 3rd party contractors.
  • Working with the wider operations team to ensure all resources and materials are aligned to the project.
  • Compilation of all project related documentation, as a key deliverable to be provided to client, within agreed timescales.
  • Adherence to all internal processes and completion of documentation, as required by the role.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering network cabling projects, ideally within data center environments.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the project lifecycle.
  • Be able to demonstrate a formal methodology background combined with a ‘think on your feet’ attitude. Whilst methodology and process are important, the environments we work in are dynamic, so we would expect candidates to demonstrate a flexible approach to suit the project and customer requirements.
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of project planning processes, techniques, methodologies, risk and commercial savvy.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing stakeholder expectations.
  • High level of IT literacy (MS Office etc.)
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • Excellent customer facing manner.
  • Flexible approach to working location and times.
  • UK Driving Licence

Enhanced Requirements

  • Proven experience and/or industry recognised training with network cabling technologies.
  • Proven experience and/or industry recognised training with network cabling test equipment.
  • Proven experience and/or industry recognised project management aligned qualifications, such as PRINCE2, ITIL or PMP for example.
  • Proven experience and/or industry recognised health and safety aligned qualifications, such as SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely for example.
  • CSCS / ECS Card.
