Due to the continued expansion of our highly successful specialised engineering company, including our award winning data centre design and build business, we have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Designer to work from our Manchester Office on our Data Centre design and build projects. Working in a team of engineers within our CI (Critical Infrastructures) division you would have responsibility to design energy efficient cooling systems, controls, pipework systems and ventilation systems.

Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be expected to utilise a sound knowledge of developing mechanical infrastructure design and engineering to suit the needs of the relevant project. The candidate will be responsible for tender design proposals as well as secured projects that are being developed for construction. The designs would be progressed through all RIBA stages, and the successful candidate would assume the role of lead designer on Mechanically biased projects.
Alongside carrying out engineering on the project, the candidate should have a good customer manner and be able to proactively engage with the client and expand on his requirements. Additionally, development of the Sudlows network with specialist suppliers, contractors, system integrators and other consultants.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To produce designs for data centre mechanical systems including chilled water and high efficiency cooling systems and ventilation systems.
- To produce mechanical schematics both for sales documentation and for build drawings.
- To produce specifications for critical part of mechanical installations.
- Create and issue mechanical specifications to contractors.
- Review mechanical quotations and select suitable contractors.
- Carry out site surveys.
- To develop the mechanical systems including developing all necessary drawings, technical submissions, calculations and descriptions of operation to construction standard throughout all RIBA stages.
- To liaise with all sub-contractors and ensure that all drawings are issued with all required information.
- To liaise with the Procurement Manager to ensure all necessary specifications and drawings and available for procurement use.
- To check and approve Purchase Orders with respect to Technical Design.
- Prepare and submit Technical Submittals for customer review.
- Experience with Data Centre Installations preferable but not essential.
- Be flexible with workload and may be required to work away from time to time.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified (min HNC/HND level or degree level in Building Services Engineering).
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in a similar role.
- Experience with Data Centre / High Efficiency Cooling Installations preferable but not essential.
- Good communicator, both in writing and on the telephone.
- Good numeracy skills.
- Experience with Amtech – preferable but not essential.
- Experience with AutoCAD – preferable but not essential.
- Competent in Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Able to prioritise tasks and manage time, to meet tender return deadlines.
- Experience with and currently working for a mechanical consultant or contractor in a similar role (Data Centre design experience preferable).
- Full driving licence essential.
